7 of the Best Beer Gardens in North London

Be quick - summer's nearly over, so grab your jacket and make the most of the last few warm evenings in these fantastic north London beer gardens and rooftops.

Alice House 283-285 West End lane, NW6 1RD

From cocktails to scotch eggs and roasted squid salad, enjoy watching the world go by from their road- side terrace on West End Lane in the heart of West Hampstead

Spaniards Inn, Spaniards Road, Hampstead, London, Greater London, NW3 7JJ

With its enormous beer garden, this 16th Century pub is hard to beat at this time of year. Serving traditional pub dishes such as fish and chips, Devon crab plus the much-publicised Sunday roasts.

The Castle, Islington , 54 Pentonville Rd, London, Islington N1 9HF

Part of the Geronimo Inn chain, this traditional pub at the end of Pentonville road offers a fabulous rooftop terrace where you can escape the hustle and bustle of Angel after work with a hard-earned beer or tipple of your choice; and if you like an anecdote with your pint, this is where the Hatton Garden thieves planned the biggest jewellery heist in British history.

The Windmill, Cricklewood , Cricklewood Broadway, Cricklewood, NW2 3JX

Perfect if you have friends or family visiting from out of London, as The Windmill is not only a lovely pub with a good sized beer garden, but a hotel too, with rooms starting from as little as £50 a night.

The Island Queen, 87 Noel Road, London, Greater London, N1 8HD

Strictly speaking it's not really a garden as such, but they do offer a couple of tables out the front. They do a brilliant (i.e. challenging but not ridiculously tricky!) pub quiz on Tuesday evenings, brilliant food, beer and a burger for a tenner on Wednesdays and mouth-watering Sunday roasts. Plus it's nicely tucked away off Upper Street so you've got a good chance of getting a much-coveted outdoor perch this time of year!

The Black Lion , 295-297 West End Lane, NW6 1RD

Another fantastic pub in central West Hampstead, The Black Lion's split-level beer garden is hard to beat as is the selection of real ales (five of which are changed on a daily basis) plus they boast a fantastic-sounding menu.

The Roebuck , 15 Pond St, London NW3 2PN

Take a stroll south from Hampstead Heath towards Belsize Park, and you'll come across the Roebuck with its amazingly colourful beer garden - complete with heaters and blankets for when the sun goes in.
