Family Fun in West Hampstead

By Lucy Shapiro

As a mother with two young children, I am always looking for child friendly places and having worked in West Hampstead for the past 8 and a half years, I have come across some lovely places that I would recommend families to visit.

The Sherriff Centre, St James Church

This not only has a post office and lovely cafe but a gorgeous enclosed soft play area for kids. Let them burn off some energy before you explore some of the gorgeous clothes and gifts shops the high street has to offer.

Art 4 Fun

For the more creative ones, the shop is definitely the place for them!

The kids can paint on a variety of materials, ceramics, mosaics, glass, t-shirts - even hand and foot prints can be done. The kids select what they wish to paint and all the utensils are provided whilst the parents can sit and enjoy a cup of tea (or they can choose to join in and paint something themselves).

West Hampstead Library

Apart from having the usual facilities, this library has Rhyme time, baby bounce sessions and a toy library for under fives so definitely worth a visit or two.

The Village Haberdashery

Just recently opened at West Hampstead Square is this little gem. They have a large range of classes available to suit any age. The one I have come across is the after school craft club suitable for 6+. You can weave, fabric paint and much more (and a 10% discount is given for sibling bookings). Even if you didn't fancy a class, their shop is definitely worth browsing in.

Finally for those lovely Summer days, they are a number of close by playgrounds where the children can let off some steam!

If you are looking for a new home to buy or rent, Paramount cover West Hampstead, Queens Park, Ealing and a number of other popular family friendly areas.
