South Maida Vale is a prime residential area; the streets around Maida Avenue, Warwick Crescent and Bloomfield Road overlooking Brownings Pool are known as Little Venice.
The name, Little Venice is believed to have been coined by the English poet Robert Browning who lived there from 1862 to 1887. Brownings Pool is named after the poet, and is situated at the junction of Regents Canal and the Paddington arm of the Grand Union Canal.
The canal is also home to permanent community of residents who live on picturesque house boats. These canal moorings at Little Venice are much sought after due to the beautiful and central location.
On dry land the architecture in the area is equally desirable with buildings featuring impressive white stucco facades.
Little Venice has many shops and restaurants as well as; the Puppet Theatre Barge, the Cascade Floating Art Gallery, the Waterside Cafe and the Warwick Castle pub. The canal offers popular walks along the tow path or barges for canal tours stretching eastwards from Little Venice around Regents Park, past London Zoo and on towards Camden Town.
