Maida Vale Estate & Letting Agents

Maida Vale Estate Agents - Maida Vale Lettings Agents - London NW9

Maida Vale is a popular residential area in West London located in the City of Westminster. The borders of Maida Vale edge towards the area of Kilburn in a south-easterly direction past the Maida Vale tube station towards the Edgware Road. To the east of Maida Vale lie St Johns Wood and Lords Cricket Ground.

Maida Vale also includes the Paddington Basin, the confluence of three canals known as Little Venice. Towards the south of Maida Vale is an area known as Maida Hill.

Greatly admired for its impressive Edwardian mansion blocks, (one of the most noteworthy being Ashworth). It is a highly desirable area well connected by public transport and is within close proximity to the centre of London. Maida Vale is an affluent area yet comparatively more affordable than its neighbour St Johns Wood. The area is distinctive by the many handsome properties along wide tree lined avenues promoting a peaceful haven. Nestled in-between are cosy enclaves of cafes, restaurants, boutiques and independent delis. Maida Vale also has open park spaces with a sports centre and tennis courts widely enjoyed by local residents.

Maida Vale has its own station on the Bakerloo line. Also nearby on the Bakerloo line are the stations of Little Venice and Kilburn Park; and St Johns Wood station on the Jubilee line. Maida Vale tube station was opened on June 6, 1915.

Maida Vale was developed by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in the early 1800s as middle class housing. The district acquired its name from a public house named the Hero of Maida which was inspired by John Stuart, Count of Maida. The public House opened on the Edgware Road soon after the Battle of Maida in 1806. Also of historical interest in Maida Vale are two English Heritage Blue Plaques;

William Edward Friese-Greene who pioneered cinematography and lived at 136 Maida Vale; and David Ben-Gurion, (1886-1973), the first Prime Minister of Israel who resided at 75 Warrington Crescent.

Present day the Maida Vale Studios is home to some of BBC National Radio's Recording and Broadcast Studios; used primarily by BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.
