The Area in Depth

Kilburn history

The old town of Kilburn has its roots in a 12th Century priory on the banks of Kilburn Brook. Today it’s a lively cosmopolitan area boasting London’s highest Irish population and a mixture of cuisine and culture from the Caribbean to gastro pubs.

Kilburn food and drink

Cafes

If you’re after a fry-up, Kilburn isn’t short of local ‘caffs’ such as…

  • Maison Vie

  • Kiln Theatre : You might be surprised to discover a quirky cinema on Kilburn High Street but give it a whirl and pop in for a pre or post show coffee or bite to eat in the bar and restaurant

Restaurants
  • Ariana 2 : Never tried Afghan cuisine? Well wait no longer! Sister to the original Ariana in New York, kebabs and chalow (and ‘impeccable stews’ according to Harden’s), don’t get much better than this!

  • Franco Manca : This growing chain can do no wrong. Great pizzas at the prices they should be!

  • Small and Beautiful : Consistently notching up good reviews on Trip Advisor and rightly so. Great neighbourhood restaurant.

  • Wingmans : A firm favourite of the locals, Wingman's has fast established itself as one of the most popular restaurants on Kilburn High Road. Whether you opt for one of their signature wings or chicken burgers, you're in for a real treat!

Pubs and Bars
  • North London Tavern : Traditional (but not shabby) London pub offering upmarket pub grub (gastro/burgers etc) and open mic nights

  • Black Lion : Beautiful grade 2 listed interior, small outside seating area and guest rooms upstairs. A real destination pub.

  • Earl Derby : Huge pub serving American-style food. Help yourself to one of the many board games on offer and settle in for the evening.

Kilburn shopping

Along with staples such as Argos, Superdrug, Boots etc, Kilburn High Road has many independent grocers, a market, butchers and a fishmonger (and more hair salons and nail bars than you can shake a stick at!).

Kilburn outdoor space

Kilburn Grange Park is located behind the shops on Kilburn High Road. A great place to relax in the summer and the rose gardens are enjoyed all year round. There are three tennis courts, a multi-sports pitch and a free outdoor gym suitable for all fitness levels. Facilities for little ones include a natural play area and an adventure playground where they hold special events.
