Queens Park is an area of North West London divided between the London Borough of Brent and the City of Westminster. Bordering areas include Kilburn, Kensal Green, Maida Vale and Willesden. Salusbury Road is at the heart of the area with Queens Park tube station on the Bakerloo line and London Overground routes towards Euston, Watford and Willesden Junction at one end and Brondesbury Park railway station also serviced by London Overground at the other.
Queens Park is a Conservation Area offering a mixture of late Victorian and Edwardian houses as well as large semi-detached, terraced houses and conversions. House prices have considerably risen in recent years and homes overlooking the park are in great demand. Unlike the neighboring areas of Notting Hill, Queens Park remains still relatively undiscovered by non-residents. Advantageously the area has an extremely well established local residents association, QPARA who safeguards the interests of the community and raises funds.
Queens Park Rangers originally came from here, as the name implies, although they now play nearby in Shepherd's Bush. Queen's Park was historically set up as a permanent venue for The Agricultural Society annual show. Their principal annual activity being the annual Queens Park day held in Queens Park. Queens Park truly becomes a village on this occasion with all the stalls to be expected from a village fete. The event is greatly enjoyed by local residents who support the day in large numbers.
Queens Park itself is a beautiful green space of 30 acres and now managed by the City of London Corporation. It has recently been named a Green Flag Park in recognition of the quality of its services and environment. It is a hub of activity and facilities in the park include: six all-weather tennis courts, a pitch-and-putt course, a petanque pitch, an ornamental garden, a childrens playground with paddling pool, a childrens animal farm and a cafe.
Towards Kensal Rise is the Queens Park Estate some 2000 small houses built in 1874 by the Artizans and Labourers General Dwellings Company. Its distinctive architecture is Gothic-revival, with polychrome brickwork, pinnacles and turrets along the bigger roads. It retains Avenues 1-6 and originally had streets A-P. The street names have now been made into full words for example Alperton St, Barfett St, Caird Street etc. It was on this estate that the first QPR footballers had their homes. It stretches from Kilburn Lane down to the Harrow Road.
Salusbury Road is home to small boutiques, delicatessens and award winning restaurants and pubs.
On Sunday morning The Queens Park Farmers Market opens on the grounds of Salusbury Primary School on Salusbury Road. This market is one of the most popular and busiest in London selling locally farm grown produce; many of producers being organically certified. Queens Park is a very popular area with young professional couples and families with young children. The area is known to attract professionals working within media reflective of the established community spirit of the area.
There are also numerous leisure centers and health clubs nearby. Famous residents in Queens Park include Daniel Craig, Thandie Newton, Jade Jagger, Lily Allen, Alexandra Shulman, and Zadie Smith.
