Brondesbury

A local's guide

Back to all guides

Brondesbury, situated in North West London, offers the perfect balance between the hustle and bustle of Kilburn, and the quiet residential feel of Queen’s Park and Kensal Rise. Although Brondesbury itself is quieter than Kilburn, it remains vibrant thanks to its excellent selection of local shops, cafes and cultural spots. Great transport links also make it easy to explore London. Brondesbury is the ideal area for those seeking a central but calm environment.

Stations: Brondesbury Park Overground Station (Mildmay line), Kilburn Underground Station (Jubilee line)

Why did you choose to live in Brondesbury?

Brondesbury has the perfect mix of setting. Queens Park and Kensal Rise are home to beautiful local shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs/bars alike. Kilburn is a busier area with plenty of local food stalls, markets and different food vendors. With Brondesbury smack-bang in the middle, it ticks all the boxes, whilst being in a quiet area itself!

What kind of vibe does Brondesbury have?

Brondesbury straddles two identities I feel, the slightly mad bustle of Kilburn High Road and the much more peaceful Queen's Park. This gives the best of both worlds, you can spend the morning sauntering up Salusbury Road, popping into coffee shops and florists, and then spend the evening in some of Kilburn's historic pubs. It retains a central feeling with plenty to do, but the quiet residential streets mean you can still enjoy peaceful evenings at home.

Where’s your favourite place to grab a morning coffee?

Bob’s Cafe in Queen’s Park is a definite favourite! Love to grab a coffee from here on a lazy weekend, it has such a home from home feel and the food is brilliant! Another great spot is Milk Beach, it’s an Australian style cafe that does a fabulous brunch! Also both of these are dog friendly! So great if you have a dog, or love them.

Where would you top three spots to be to go for dinner?

Anjanaas on Willesden Lane is a must try - fantastic South Indian cuisine that you can't get in many places. Ariana II is also great, and again, not the type of cuisine you find in many places - we are very fortunate to be spoilt for choice here. Finally, I can't fail to mention Woody Grill (especially the Dyne Road branch!). Woody is relatively unassuming but it is good value, super reliable, and is probably responsible for the distinct smell of charcoal that welcomes you to Brondesbury as you emerge from the overground in the evenings.

How would you spend a Saturday in Brondesbury?

Events are often held in Queens Park to attend, as well as easy-to-book Tennis Courts. Having drinks at the bustling Wolfpack Bar on Lonsdale Road, where people spill out into the street in the Summer sun followed by a boogie at Alice House after 9pm!

Where’s the best place to be if you want to outdoors?

Queens Park is a fantastic area to spend outdoors in the Summer, with ample space to have a picnic or play sports. There is also a farm in the park hosting goats, sheep, chickens and more to keep children entertained!

What would you say Brondesbury’s hidden gem is?

Parlour in Kensal Rise is a gastropub with a fantastic environment. Tucked away down a side-street with a lovely rear garden and a great vibe inside. Serves a range of local drinks, as well as great food.

Is there anything else you’d like to give a special mention to?

As a member of the local rugby team, Kilburn Cosmos RFC, our local club is community driven and hosts a range of events in the Summer to which the local community are all invited to. Situated in Gladstone Park (NW2), a newly-refurbished clubhouse is open to all, particularly after games on a Saturday and Sunday!
