Fulham

Our guide

Back to all guides

A more affordable area than it’s rich uncle, Chelsea, Fulham is a lively residential area full of beautiful streets and great pubs, sat on the North bank of the Thames. It's popular as a base for tourists as well as those seeking that ‘SW’ lifestyle.

Stations: Fulham Broadway Underground (District line), Parsons Green Underground (District line), West Brompton Station (Mildmay line, Southern Railway), Imperial Wharf Station (Mildmay line, Southern Railway)

What kind of vibe does Fulham have?

Fulham is busy and lively. It hosts high street shops in the Fulham Broadway Shopping Mall, as well as lots of busy pubs and restaurants.

Where can I grab a morning coffee?

You are spoilt for choice in Fulham over where to grab a coffee and a pastry. We don't even want list a favourite - you should be working your way through all of them like we are! But we recommend starting with Doctor Espresso, Local Hero, or The Teahouse in Bishops Park if you want to combine it with a walk.

Fulham does gastropubs really well – and if that’s your thing try The Harwood Arms. A slightly eclectic menu featuring a mix of cuisines.

Time Out rates Josephine as the best restaurant in Fulham so it would be rude not to mention it. It’s not cheap, but described as ‘your local French bistro’ they do a very reasonable set menu. They also serve Wine the authentic way – meaning you only pay for what you drink from the bottle.

The Fulham Arms aims to bring ‘traditional country pub’ to the city. It serves classic British drinks, and traditional pub food – but done really, really well. They describe it best themselves as ‘laidback luxury’. Who isn’t in for a bit of that?

How would I spend a Saturday in Fulham?

There is so much to do in Fulham just wandering around, from shopping in the mall, catching a film in the cinema complex, and visiting Fulham Palace for some greenery. I would always have an eye on the Apollo in Hammersmith - there are incredible bands, comedians and shows passing through every week.

Where’s the best place to be if you want to be outdoors?

Fulham Palace offers guided tours, or feel free to wander around yourself. They have a packed diary of events and things on at the house and gardens and it never seems to be overly busy.

Does Fulham have any hidden gems?

Brompton Cemetery – bare with me while I explain. It’s one of several cemeteries in London to achieve ‘Magnificent Seven’ status. It's one of London's famous Victorian cemeteries and is now an attraction in its own right. Brompton Cemetery is teeming with wildlife and exquisite architecture. Or have a stroll round and spot the names of one of its famous residents – home to political activist Emmeline Pankhurst to name just one.
