Kensal Rise
Our guide
Kensal Rise is an up and coming area, which has seen an influx of independent shops and cafes in recent years making it a hotspot for young professionals, and young families alike. Situated in North London, Kensal Rise isn’t as busy as neighbouring Harlesden, nor as upmarket as Notting Hill on the other side. Sitting in the middle, keeping it’s metaphorical head down, Kensal Rise is not to be overlooked as a pocket of relative calm in London.

What kind of vibe does Kensal Rise have?
Kensal Rise has an eclectic mix of businesses and residents who have lived in the area for a long time, as well as new and fresh businesses bringing a different clientel to the area in the last ten years. The area has good schools so is popular with families as well as access to green space that you can’t always get in London.
What are 3 restaurants to go to for dinner?
Parlour is a great local spot, focusing on British Cuisine, who are regularly involved in local projects – we love any business that is involved in the local community! The venue is dark, moody and cosy and the food is great.
Bel & Nev specialise more in lunch/brunch or all day breakfast, but we had to give them a mention. They are a classically trained husband and wife team – and they don’t take bookings. We know by now that’s always a sign of a place that is constantly busy, and worth visiting!
Finally, Paradise by way of Kensal Rise is a popular spot that all locals will have heard of. A large imposing pub, it offers fine dining in a really creative and innovative way. They do a mean Sunday Roast though we advise booking in advance!
How would I spend a Saturday in Kensal Rise?
A Saturday well spent would be a slow wander down College Road checking out which of the bakeries and coffee shops would be best for coffee and a pastry. Willesden Salvage puts some of the more ‘up market’ flea markets to shame – it’s worth a wander to pick up some real treasures. Paradise by way of Kensal Rise is a great venue for a special occasion or weekend meal out – and if you don’t feel like calling it a night just yet, the upstairs part of the pub/restaurant turns into a popular nightclub at the weekends, boasting great DJs and music.
Where’s the best place to be if you want to be outdoors?
Queens Park and it’s associated Farmers Market are a lovely way to spend a Sunday. Mixing fresh air and wholesome mornings with great homemade produce and something you can take home to round the weekend off nicely.
What is Kensal Rise's hidden gem?
The Lexi Cinema is a proud feature of the area – having recently undergone renovation it now boasts a wild flower garden on the roof as well as newly built bars and additional screens. It’s run by volunteers and is Londons only social enterprise cinema. If you are going to see a movie, make sure it’s here.
