Like we’ve mentioned in our previous market update blogs, the Camden market is very much on the move, and West Hampstead has welcomed a new wave of first-time buyers. In fact, 61% of enquiries on our sales listings are from first-time buyers - based on all applicants registered with Paramount between 1st January and 28th August 2025.
That means if you’re selling a 1 or 2 bed in NW6, your main audience is likely to be someone buying their first home. So, how do you sell quickly and appeal to this buyer group? Let’s recap.
Quick Fixes
Missing door handles. Peeling paint. Lifted carpets. These might seem like minor issues to a seasoned homeowner, but to a first-time buyer? They're a red flag. Most first-time buyers are working with tight budgets. Getting on the ladder in London is hard enough, and many simply don’t have the spare funds (or experience) to take on even small DIY jobs. What seems like a quick weekend fix to you might look like costly renovation work to them. So before going to market, take a good look around. Are there any low-cost, high-impact repairs you can make? A few hundred pounds spent now, on fresh paint, new handles, or fixing scuffed flooring, could be what gets you the offer you’ve been hoping for.

Get Clever with Virtual Staging
If your home is sitting empty, it can be hard for buyers, especially first-timers, to visualise the potential. And if you’re short on time or budget, fully furnishing the place for marketing photos isn’t always realistic.
But that’s where virtual staging comes in. And trust us, it’s come a long way.
With AI and design tech moving at lightning speed, virtual staging is now more detailed and convincing than ever. It allows you to digitally furnish your home to show what a room could look like, with smart furniture layouts, colour palettes, and even lighting. It's especially useful in smaller 1- or 2-bed flats (we know how tight space can be in some of our lovely Victorian conversions!).
And here’s a tip: if your home already has clever storage, shout about it. If not, use virtual staging to show how storage could work. A compact desk nook, built-in shelves, or a breakfast bar can go a long way in helping buyers see how they could live in the space, not just occupy it.
At Paramount, we regularly use virtual staging as part of our smarter selling strategy. It helps first-time buyers connect emotionally with a space, and that connection often leads to quicker decisions.
Communal Areas Count
First-time buyers, like any buyer, want to feel safe and secure in their new home. But for them, first impressions matter even more. If the first thing they experience is a broken front door, overgrown hedges, or a messy hallway, it immediately raises concerns, not just about safety, but also what the neighbours might be like. At Paramount, we see this come up time and time again in our resident feedback questionnaires. Kerb appeal and communal upkeep really do influence how buyers feel. So if your flat has shared spaces, spruce them up. A lick of paint in the hallway, clearing out any junk mail, and making sure the front door locks properly can go a long way in helping buyers feel confident, and reducing friction when it comes to offers.

Lead with Lifestyle
Most first-time buyers aren’t tied to school catchment areas just yet, which means their options across London are wide open. They’ll gravitate towards areas they can afford and a lifestyle they want to buy into. And let’s be honest, the West Hampstead lifestyle is a sought-after one. So if you’re selling, it needs to be front and centre in your marketing.
Too often, we see homes marketed as just a property, but that misses the emotional side of the decision. At Paramount, we go further. We regularly include photos of the street, nearby cafés, local parks, and even the walk to the nearest station to help buyers picture what life outside the front door looks like.
We also ask sellers to share what they love about living in their home and the area. These ‘seller stories’ often mention favourite bakeries, friendly neighbours, and where they get their morning coffee, things that buyers genuinely connect with.
If your buyer is about to make one of the biggest decisions of their life, your marketing needs to help them fall in love with both the home and the area.
For first-time buyers, everything is new, budgeting, decision-making, responsibility. So if you want to sell your West Hampstead home quickly, especially in a competitive London market, your job is to make that decision feel exciting, not overwhelming.
That means:
- Making sure there are no obvious red flags (think: easy fixes like scuffed paint or loose fittings)
- Presenting a clean, welcoming first impression, especially if your flat has shared spaces
- Going beyond the four walls to showcase the lifestyle that comes with living in NW6
- Helping them get excited for the vision of their new place with virtual staging.
