Renter-friendly interior design hacks for your home

Have you found your dream space here in London but not sure where to start with decor? Don’t panic, we’ve got you.

We’ve taken a deep dive into the predicted trends that are here to stay in 2025 and curated a handy little list.

Residents! Don’t be shy, keep an eye out for handy renter-friendly tips and tricks that you can work into your new space wi thout losing that deposit at the end of your tenancy. Let’s get straight into it, shall we?

Functional, but beautiful, accessories

We’re over shells as wine glasses, stems that snap too quickly and ornate tea cups as martini glasses. Instead, we’re sticking with the classics.

Pragmatic, functional and practical glassware is in for 2025. Not only do they work with any furniture, kitchen or dining decor, but they’re easily attainable from both high street stores and antiques and charity shops.

Another practical small furnishings trend is the grand return of silver, chrome and steel finishes. Out goes brushed, aged copper and bronze, and in with easily cleanable, sleek silvers.

Residents top tip: Want to avoid big jobs such as switching out taps or installing a steel splashback? Why not incorporate subtle hints of metals; a silver fruit bowl, steel candlesticks or chrome hardware on furniture.

Colourways

The 2025 colour palette is set to stray away from the creams, plaster beige brush strokes and pastels of 2024 and head more into deep, rich earthy tones. Plus, there is the new ‘hottest colour’; Cherry Red.

This doesn’t just mean greens and browns, no sir. We’re talking deep cherry red accents, a burnt umber throw, a strategically mismatched duvet and pillow set in sage, mustard and teal.

Want to experiment with colour and fabric? Velvet is back in! (we’re surprised too). Timothy Corrigan says “Velvets have become the go-to texture replacing the soft boucle of previous years. People want soft-to-touch textures over rough linens”

Residents top tip: Not all colour trends need to be an accent wall or an all-over paint job. Using earthy tones in subtle places such as in bed linen, pillows, tableware or even dishcloths shows a subtle nod to being on trend without having to paint the walls back to white further down the line.

Bigger pieces that make an even bigger difference

Think feature headboards and XL sofas. This trend can be on the pricier side but will make a huge difference to your bedroom or living space.

Georgia Metcalfe, founder of French Bedroom says “Adding an opulent headboard can instantly elevate the bedroom into a beautifully styled space”.

If you’re into DIY, there are hundreds of how-to guides on YouTube or TikTok talking you through how to make your very own standout feature headboard, for less.

(Residents top tip: this is a great way to make a big difference in an otherwise simpler-style bedroom, and a piece you can take with you if you ever decide to move).

Extra large sofas are also a great way to make a statement, especially if you’ve got a big household or love hosting.

Not so much of a DIY fan or not willing to shell out for an XL couch? Head to your local antique stores or furniture charity shops to find a hidden gem.

The hybrid, multi-functional room

During the pandemic, many of us had to quickly change rooms or spaces to become at-home office space. But since then, we’ve slowly been morphing them into multi-use spaces. According to standout-cv, 44% of UK residents work from home at least some of the time, so the home office isn’t out the window, but maybe it’s time to utilise it the rest of the time.

Whether it’s an office/home gym or office/reading sanctuary, the choices are endless and make great use of a space that’s often now only used two to three times a week on average.

Why not combine two trends and deck out your new hybrid room with nostalgic and antique furniture to create a cozy space, perfect for working from home and your new relaxing nook of the home.
