10 things about my 10 years working at Paramount

10 things about my 10 years at Paramount
By Lucy Shapiro

It’s amazing to think that I have been with the same company for 10 years but when I think back to when I first walked into the office, the changes, improvements and the way we have evolved has been unbelievable and I continue to be excited to see what the next ten years will bring!

1. Taking on different roles

Although I had some property experience, I started my Paramount journey as a front desk receptionist supporting the lettings team. Through my years, Paramount has allowed me to grow within the business and be able to learn about the different departments. From moving temporarily into management and accounts when we were short staffed to eventually finding my perfect role within the renewals department.

2. Becoming a paperless office

I remember being in the office and not being able to see my director due to the stack of folders on his desk. Technology has evolved so much over the past few years and having the ability for everyone to view everything in one place, rather than in a paper file, has been a positive change (and also good for the environment).

3. Balancing work and family life

I walked into Paramount as a newly married lady and since then, have had two children who are now 6 and 4. Learning to balance your time between your family and work can be tough however Paramount has always given me the flexibility to be able to achieve both without compensating one for the other.

4. Courses and Qualifications

After leaving University, I didn’t think I would be sitting any more exams, but Paramount encourage you to continue learning and I was so pleased when I completed my Association of Residential Letting Agents exams - it gave me a real sense of achievement.

5. Not everything is about work

I have seen numerous benefits being introduced over the years by our directors. Golden time, Glimpse of Brilliance awards and having your birthday off to name a few.

6. Charity support

We also support a number of charities and I have been fortunate enough to be able to get involved in these charity projects - the most memorable being the Love Mud challenge and dressing up as my son’s favourite footballer Ronaldo for Agents Giving.

7. Property awards

I have been very lucky to be able to attend a number of property awards over the years and it has been such an amazing feeling, sitting in those ceremonies, when Paramount’s name has been called out as the recipient of one of those prestigious awards.

8. How the law keeps changing

Learning to constantly adapt with the ever-changing law - the introduction of HMO’s, Right to Rent checks, Legionnaires assessments and upcoming Tenant Fee Ban etc. It is getting tougher to compete in this competitive industry, but we look at all these with a positive outlook and implement them within our company as if they have always been there.

9.  Seeing how the company grows

Since I started, we were a much smaller team and were covering various roles. We have now gone from strength to strength, from introducing new departments to looking at different aspects and adding more layers to our business.

10. The next ten years

The one thing that hasn’t changed over the years is the drive and passion for Paramount to succeed in this competitive industry and I continue to be excited to be part of this team and see what the next ten years will bring!
