Three Must Visit Green Spaces Near West Hampstead

Public service announcement: It’s the last month of summer. That means we’re soon going to have to wave goodbye to those sun-soaked mornings with an iced latte in hand and instead say hello to changing leaves and the aroma of pumpkin spiced lattes. But we’re not there just yet; there’s still a fair few weeks to grab a book and a blanket and enjoy the London sun. If there’s one thing our corner of North West London isn’t short of, it’s green spaces - and our Paramount renters have been lucky enough to enjoy the best of them. When outside space comes at a premium, and you’re on a budget, having our parks around the corner makes all the difference. So here’s our renters guide for green spaces in and around West Hampstead.

Our Operations Director Reagan Bradley & Co at the Hampstead Heath Ponds

Hampstead Heath, Hampstead, NW3
Dog-friendly • Great for running • Sunday roasts nearby

No surprise here that the most mentioned green space is, of course, Hampstead Heath. With 791 acres of open space, hidden pergolas, and views that make you forget you’re in London, the Heath has something for everyone. The Heath is full of character. You’ll spot dog walkers (allow at least 30 minutes extra for all the pup stroking), students catching up over summer picnics, and youngsters getting stuck into a nature trail. It’s a dream if you’re into running too - whether you're just getting started or training for the London Marathon. There’s so much space to breathe that you’ll never feel like you’re in anyone’s way. While I haven’t found my love for running (yet), I’ve spent many a Sunday afternoon getting my steps in here. Grab a friend, or go solo, soak up the greenery and reward yourself with a roast and a glass of Malbec at one of the 12 pubs that border the Heath (The Spaniards Inn is my personal favourite).

The view over Grange Park from Espalier Gardens

Grange Park, Kilburn, NW6
Dog-friendly • Playground • Tennis courts • Football pitch • Outdoor gym

Just a few minutes from our office, this one’s close to our hearts. Growing up in Kilburn, Grange Park was the place to be after school or on weekends. And over the years, Camden has really invested in turning it into the community staple it is today. It’s dog-friendly and perfect for a quick morning walk. While it doesn’t rival Queen’s Park or Hampstead Heath in size, that’s kind of the point, it’s your go-to for a quick runabout with the dog or a breath of fresh air before work. Have little ones joining you? Perfect. There’s a well-kept play area for younger children (swings, slides, all the classics). For the older, and more adventurous, there’s an adventure playground, too (treehouses, rope bridges, the lot). Grange park is also a hub for our budding athletes. There are three tennis courts (book online here) open from 8am at around £10 a session, it’s one of the most affordable ways to spend an afternoon getting active in London. There’s also a football pitch, and an outdoor gym. Grange Park is small, yes, but it’s not short of things to do.

Our Marketer, Rhian with Mia at Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park, Queens Park, NW6
Family favourite • Paddling pool • Petting zoo • Golf course  • Tennis Courts

It’s not as expansive as the Heath, but it’s definitely got more to offer than Grange Park when it comes to an all-day family outing. If you’ve got little ones to entertain and need to fill a whole afternoon, this is your spot. In my opinion, Queen’s Park is the best park for kids in North West London, it was practically designed with them in mind. The playground is next-level. As a kid, I was obsessed with the sandpit. I’d spend hours making sand cakes and desperately trying to sell them to my mum for £1 a slice (she never caved). Beyond the sand, there’s an adventure playground complete with that ride we all remember, the one where you sit on a tyre and zip-line from one end to the other. It’s not huge, but it’s thrilling if you’re under four feet. In the summer months they open their outdoor paddling pool, such a treat in the London sun. You’ll also find the enchanted forest, a magical woodland walk with plaques about the wildlife and parks history, and, everyone’s favourite, the Queen’s Park Petting Zoo. Guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, the lot. It’s very popular with the local families. Need a break? There’s the Park Cafe in the centre of the fields. Need to tire out the other half? Point them towards the mini-golf course and tennis courts. Everyone wins.

I wasn’t exaggerating when I said we have some pretty great green spaces on our doorstep -  believe me now? Whether you’re a seasoned runner, prosecco picnic pro or looking for places to let the kids run wild, we highly recommend taking a trip to one of these parks. And if you’re looking for your next home near one of these, we’d love to help.
